Celebrating HBCU Art at Glynn Visual Arts

The Golden Isles Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Incorporated embarked on a profoundly enriching cultural journey, celebrating the vibrant world of HBCU art in a very special collaboration with Glynn Visual Arts (GVA). This unique partnership offered our chapter members an unparalleled opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich heritage and contemporary brilliance of art created by alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

The Golden Isles Chapter was honored with an exclusive invitation to this inspiring exhibition, providing a deeply personal and educational experience for our members and their children. A highlight of the event was the opportunity to witness the exceptional talent of artists who honed their craft at HBCUs, institutions renowned for nurturing Black excellence across all disciplines, including the arts.

We were particularly thrilled to celebrate the work of our very own amazing sculptor, Kevin Pullen, an esteemed HBCU alumnus whose powerful creations resonated deeply with all attendees. His presence and the opportunity to engage with his art brought a wonderful local connection to the broader celebration of HBCU artistic contributions. The invitation to this special viewing was graciously extended by Myrna Scott Amos, and we extend our sincere gratitude to her and to the entire team at Glynn Visual Arts for curating such a thoughtful and impactful experience.
This collaboration with Glynn Visual Arts perfectly aligns with the mission of Jack and Jill of America Incorporated. Beyond our focus on leadership development and community service, we are deeply committed to exposing our children to diverse cultural experiences that broaden their perspectives and foster an appreciation for the arts. This event was a testament to the enduring influence of HBCUs in shaping not just leaders, but also extraordinary artists who contribute significantly to the global cultural landscape.

The experience at GVA wasn’t just about viewing art; it was about connecting with history, celebrating identity, and understanding the power of creative expression. It ignited conversations among our families about the importance of supporting Black artists and the critical role HBCUs play in preserving and promoting Black culture and talent.
The Golden Isles Chapter extends a heartfelt “Thank you!” to Glynn Visual Arts for a truly wonderful and memorable experience. We look forward to future collaborations that continue to highlight Black excellence and enrich our community through the power of art.
